The HP Touchsmart 600 Makes Me Smile

Many of you know that I prefer apple products over PC personally. Professionally in our practice we have only utilized PC's, which is why I want to mention our newest find. Although I would love to have all apple products in our practice most of our software is not mac compatible. We recently purchased an HP Touchsmart 600 and we love it. It is so close to what I am used to on my iPhone 4 and iPad and it is compatible with all of our existing software. This is an excellent close second to owning a mac product for our office. The monitor is so great and it makes everything: from movies, web and most recently added into our office, digital imaging, look great.
If you haven't played with this monitor just go to best buy and try it out.

Iphone 4 - Kodak Zi-8 - The Flip

Capturing video is so important these days whether for your business testimonials or especially at home with your kids' special moments. I'm not sure about you, but I absolutely love technology and quality. The fact that you can have a device that takes absolutely incredible quality video the size of a cell phone is amazing. I'm addicted. I have included 3 links to the devices I have used and find best quality and most handy. I have listed them in the order of choice. I love my iphone 4 just because I always have it with me and I can fire off the HD videos or pics to family or facebook. The Kodak let's you attach an external mic for better sound quality. The flip is just way easy. These are all great devices and affordable. Let me know what you think.

The Biggest Dirty Little Secret In Business

Today I shared with my staff an excerpt from a popular book titled, Winning by Jack Welch. The second chapter title is The Biggest Dirty Little Secret in Business. In case you don't know who Jack Welch is he was GE's 8th company chairman and CEO that during his tenure increased the market capitalization by $400 billion. He is "the man" when it comes to success in business. So what can we learn from him today? His biggest find was the concept of candor, or saying what you really mean. In business and really in life most people do not exercise candor. Most of us keep the real stuff to ourselves because we don't want to offend or rock the boat. He says he found that everything operates faster and better if we all exercise more candor. Try it.

Time To Change Your Habits

The time to change your habits is now. Today. We all have habits that have gotten us where we are. I had the chance today to talk to several patients about the habits they are changing. Many of the habits we can all benefit from doing are really easy to start, but we must start. One simple habit that can help is noticing your posture during your day. I talked to one patient today that related these small habit changes to wearing braces.

I'm 31 and Haven't Felt this Good Since I was 15

You can imagine how good that comment would make you feel as a doctor. Yesterday in the office a young guy that has only been coming in for a week told me he honestly hadn't felt this good since he was 15 and he is 31. He has only had 4 visits in our office. Wow. He has a very labor intense job and he was very skeptical that he could be helped because of that, or whatever we did actually help in our office would be undone at work. What he has found is amazing outcomes and he is so excited about what is to come. He used to be so sore and dread the next day at work and now he is feeling so much stronger and capable.

I Feel So Much Better In Less Than 2 Minutes

I had an older patient tell me today how much better she is feeling and doing. She can't believe it. She is able to do housework and chores like never before and she feels great. She said, "I can't believe you have helped me this much and it only takes minutes." I explained to her that the adjustment of the problem in the spine only takes a couple of minutes and no more time is needed. She went on to tell me she knows the effect because she is living it, but it's just so hard to believe that a 2 minute adjustment can have such dramatic effects. She is so excited about her new found health and quality of life. She came in with dizziness and lower back pain and they are slowly resolving with every visit in our office.

My Sinuses Are Acting Up

"Man, my sinuses have been acting up lately... i need to go to the Chiropractor". - This message was emailed to me from a patient over the weekend. He was explaining how this is now the new normal in his household instead of tylenol or over-the-counter sinus relief. I'm excited to see that the education process in our practice is paying off and people's lives are being impacted.

Sinus and Allergy symptoms are some of the most troubling symptoms there are and they affect people year round. We have had a good amount of success in our practice with children and adults seeing their symptoms reduced and sometimes even completely resolved.

I think of one patient in particular that has lived on allergy medicine his entire life that now no longer takes anything and his symptoms are nearly nonexistent.

Get Your Life Back

"I'm curious how many of you reading this have this phone book at
work or in your home and you actually use it. I had never actually
heard of this directory until we decided to advertise in it about 5
years ago and now I notice it almost everywhere I go just sitting on
desks in waiting rooms and on counters in businesses. It is definitely
a neat thing to see our ad right on the front. A great suggestion for
anyone working on a coworker or family member to come and get
checked in our office would be to slide that phonebook into their
view a few times and just start striking up some conversation.
Good luck. We are so committed to helping people "Get Their Life Back".
We can't truly reach our potential without help. Thank you to all that are
choosing us as your chiropractor."

Back Pain Keeps Me From Working

This past week in the office a miraculous thing took place. A patient of mine that came in almost 6 weeks ago practically carried by his assistant because of his pain, now sits up and looks me in the eye after his chiropractic visit and says the unimaginable. "You know doc, I can't believe it, but I feel fantastic." He said FANTASTIC and he gets better with every visit. If you could have seen this guy 6 weeks ago you and I both would have said this is impossible.

He said he was completely skeptical the first week or two because no change was happening, but then he started having progress and gaining momentum. He is sleeping 8 full hours uninterrupted from pain, which was maybe an hour or two at a time before. He is working without anything close to the pain he was having before. He is truly getting his life back.

He said even things he didn't tell me about initially are improving like his aching feet after work. He said he used to get home from work and just collapse because of the pain in his feet. That is so much better he can barely believe it. He is definitely on his way to a new lease on his life and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

Real quick, I had another patient telling me how he feels better than he has in probably 10 years and this is only his 3rd week coming to us. That's amazing. We truly love the stories that are happening in our patient's lives.

Colic Relief Please

Let me tell you the most recent story of a family with a 4-month-old boy that has been colicky since day 1 at the hospital. He has been a disgruntled baby to say the least. He slept 6 hours a day and it took all types of routines and specific scenarios to try and get him to sleep. Crying was an understatement. Never comfortable to lay on his back for any amount of time. He would cry and scream a lot while in the car seat driving different places. Mom and dad were literally at their end and have tried almost everything.

We met this little guy just a few days ago and after an exam and consultation decided to begin chiropractic care. Although mom was very nervous of the unknown and pursuing chiropractic that seems a little scary for a baby, she was willing to try about anything. I explained to her that this process is extremely gentle and that I see a few reactions with babies after an adjustment of the spine. Those can include more upset and cranky, calmer, they may sleep better and they may fill a few diapers if they have been constipated, or there may be little difference at first. I like to let them know so there are no surprises. I explained to this mom of another baby in the practice that was sleeping only an hour at at a time who actually slept for 6 solid hours after his first adjustment.

We adjusted the patient and the parents returned the next day explaining that this was a different kid. He hasn't been crying and he only got up a few times during the night. The next morning he was lying on his back to get changed without fussing. He seems so much more calm. They are blown away. Wow. This is the kind of story that defines why we are so passionate about what we do. This is obviously the beginning of the journey, but it is certainly an amazing start.

Posture Related Heart Disease

In my practice I am seeing a landslide commonality of disorders related to the upper thoracic part of the spine. Within the spinal cord, at the base of the neck and in the upper back, this part of the nervous system affects the heart, lungs, thyroid, and lower arms. When this area has dysfunction and abnormal movement I am finding a direct connection to one of the four symptoms I listed. This is so prevalent that I see the signs in most people over age 25, especially women. The cause of this common problem in the spine is posture related. In nearly all cases their is forward head posture that is increasing the load on the upper back and gravity begins forcing the head more forward and the upper back curves abnormally. This leads to strain in the upper thoracic spinal cord and then we have conditions like asthma, heart disease, thyroid dysfunction and carpal tunnel more prevalent. Although there are many causes of these disorders I am theorizing, based on practical exposure to countless patients, that poor postural habits are a contributing factor.

Can Chiropractic Help With Sensory Processing Disorder in Children?

This disorder has been something that has been coming up a lot in my office from a 3 year old that wouldn't wear shoes and socks because of sensitivity and he now does. To a 3 and a 4 year old that were constantly crashing into things and being real clumsy to now after chiropractic care are more stable and steady. We had a 4 year old that absolutely could not tolerate spinning in circles at all who now can spin almost limitless and the therapists are scratching their heads wondering what we are doing. We are seeing what I would consider as true miracles and kids' and parents' lives being changed.
The connection we are seeing is directly related to the spine and nervous system of these kids. We are finding that there is tension and strain in the spine and specifically in the upper cervical spine of these children and this is causing significant irritation and abnormal function of the nervous system and that shows up in the form of balance issues, irritability, sensitivities and other abnormal behaviors just to name a few. When we have located these abnormally functioning areas in the spine and begin to alleviate them we are seeing change for the positive. What a fun thing to be a part of.

POTS - A True Miracle Case Study

I am blown away by this story and I wanted to share. I had the amazing opportunity to be one of two guest lecturers at The Spinal Exchange at Southeast Hospital. This program was started to help bring Physicians of all disciplines, including chiropractic, together to discuss treatment options for patients. Our topic last night was POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).

I got involved in this opportunity to speak when I received a call asking if I would be willing to share more from the story I had posted on our website about Sara. Sara and I both shared last night at Southeast Health about her miraculous turn around by utilizing chiropractic. She explained to me that her specialist in St. Louis had told her she was the second worst case he had ever seen, but he was so hopeful for her as we watched her progress by leaps and bounds. You can read her testimonial in full and I suggest it.

This story is the exact reason I chose to become a doctor and more specifically a chiropractor. When we first met she could not drive, she could barely walk without total assistance and she really couldn't even leave the house without her husband or someone else to help her. She said she was practically bedridden.

Last night Sara drove herself to the event and made her way around completely on her own. She has a job now, her independence and truly her life back. Now that's a miracle. I am humbled to be a part of her journey. It was great to catch up with her and see that she is still doing so well.

Why Did Mom Tell You To Sit Up Straight?

This morning at the gym I was observing postures of every individual there. What I found was startling. No matter the age, sex or shape of the person I found forward head posture on almost everyone. Forward head posture truly is an epidemic problem and most people have never heard of it or even considered it as a problem. Basically, there is a correct spinal posture that consists of our head being back over our shoulders allowing proper neck curve and alignment. Gravity is our worst enemy regarding the health of our spine and with a forward head posture of even 1 degree away from normal can add incremental force that the small bones of the neck were not designed to withstand.

This posture problem can be easily remedied with proper awareness throughout the day and the utilization of proactive spinal exercises to counter the sagging of our daily posture. I have included a link I actually demonstrate 3 very important exercises that I would recommend adding to your daily regimen of good habits. If you have questions or would like more specific information feel free to contact us at www.drbecking.com.

Posture is such a crucial part of our health and as I observed this morning at the gym, it is not being addressed. In our office I see 5 year olds with this habit already starting. We begin teaching kids and also parents to monitor the kids because by age 13-16 or so many of our postural habits are heading very close to permanent habits and postural changes that are not easily corrected. Most problems we find are actually starting very early in life with improper posture and habits. Let's all listen to our mothers and sit up straight.

How Can Chiropractic Help Athletic Performance?

I read an article this morning from my twitter feed that is very interesting. It read like this. It is a simple physics equation in golf: the higher the swing speed, the farther the golf ball travels. The average PGA Tour player generates a swing speed in the neighborhood of 110 MPH. Maurice Allen, a first-year chiropractic student at Life University, recorded the highest ever swing of 161 MPH as recorded on the Momentus Speed Whoosh, a golf training aid. Wow. For the full story go to http://bit.ly/fGojwj.

This is just one aspect of utilizing the body's strength, balance and coordination to do amazing things and it is being documented more and more the link to chiropractic care and better human performance. I'm thinking of one patient in my office in particular who was just in the office yesterday. His story is not your typical chiropractic story in that he didn't have any real noticeable complaints like neck pain, headaches or chronic lower back pain. He came in to get an evaluation to see what his spine and posture were like compared to normal and that's when we discovered he wasn't as healthy as he thought. What he would say has been his biggest benefit from chiropractic and why he keeps coming in is the increased performance in all aspects of his life. He runs his own production business that requires a very high pace schedule and demand on his mental and physical being. A few months into his care in my office I remember him saying that he feels that his performance has increased by so much more than he could have ever imagined. He said he is just able to get more done and he doesn't feel near the exhaustion and draining that he used to feel. He loves the affect of chiropractic on his body and overall life.

I would love to interview this high performance patient in the near future to get you his exact perspective and hear how utilizing chiropractic has not only enhanced his experience of his life, but it has actually increased the success of his business and his delivery to his clients. Pretty amazing.

Can Chiropractic Help During Pregnancy?

More amazing stories in the practice on Monday. Two stories in particular. One case involves a 30 year old that is having her first baby. She has been having terrible heartburn and also migraine headaches. She received a chiropractic adjustment last Friday and on her way out of the office her mom asked if chiropractic could help her heartburn and indigestion. Today when she came in she reported to me that as soon as she left my office on Friday the heartburn began to slowly disappear and by the evening it was gone and the next morning it was still gone and hasn't returned. She said it had gotten so bad that she was "ready to die" and had tried everything for relief. It felt like her throat was being eaten away it was so painful. She was ecstatic that she got this type of relief with just one visit. She vowed to not let so much time pass between her chiropractic visits again. She also recalled when prompted about her migraines that she hasn't had a migraine since her visit on Friday also. That was a big change as well.

Another mom came in Monday that should have delivered already and she has been even trying to do all of the tricks in the book to naturally induce this baby. She has been getting chiropractic for a few months now and today was probably her final adjustment before her delivery. She has noticed lower back pain and then her standard pain in the upper back between the shoulder blades an in the middle back. She let out a huge sigh of relief today when I adjusted her upper and mid back and her upper neck. She has done very well with chiropractic and she is excited to come in when her baby is born. Chiropractic has really allowed this mom to function very well up until almost the day before delivery. I commented to her today that she gets around as if she weren't even pregnant. Amazing funcitionality.

It is so rewarding to watch women go through the transition of pregnancy and be a part of supporting their bodies during this change and support them during the added stress biomechanically to their body. I love helping women manage their symptoms naturally and truly support their body during this natural process. Women have commented a lot that the second or third pregnancy that has included chiropractic vs the first pregnancy that didn't is day and night different in every aspect. Had they known about the affect of chiropractic care during the first pregnancy they would have started sooner. Whether it be managing headaches, migraines, neck or low back pain, or helping aid their comfort to be able to get comfortable and sleep at night, chiropractic has proven to be a must have during the pregnancy.

Chiropractic and Irritable Bowel Syndrome Stories

Wow. What a day in practice. I have heard from 2 people the dramatic impact that chiropractic has had on their life. One story is a 13 year old male that came to me for chronic complaints of poor health and his mom heard that a chiropractor might help with the immune system. I did not realize the severity of his digestive problems. His mom said he had digestive problems since birth and they have been to all types of specialists and taken every bowel enhancer or laxative on the market with no real help. As of today in our office after only 6 weeks he is relatively normal when it comes to bowel habits and he and his mom are blown away. Pretty amazing.

The other story was about a thirty something female that came in from a car accident with back pain and headaches constantly. She told me today, when I asked her what she has noticed improved, that she hasn't had a headache since we started chiropractic care. She was so excited about that. She also said that she had been having daily bouts with irritable bowel symptoms and diarrhea that was uncontrollable and unexpected and that has been completely resolved since we started chiropractic. That's amazing. I sometimes just stand in awe of the body's ability to heal with the help of chiropractic and I marvel that lives are miraculously changing right in front of my eyes.

I'm fine...... My car on the other hand......is?

With damage to metal like this, imagine what damage can be done to your spine and body. This was my car after hitting a deer a few weeks ago. Do you know how stress and injury is impacting your body? We all typically respond with an "I'm fine" even though odds are we aren't. If metal is affected this significantly you can bet you are to. Injuries don't always show up to the degree of instant pains. Research supports that permanent damage can happen with an impact of just 5 m.p.h. or more.

iPad Is First Computer 100-Year-Old Woman Bought

iPad Is First Computer 100-Year-Old Woman BoughtThe iPad is so easy to use, a cat can play with it. So can a dog! But what about a centenarian? Virginia of Oregon bought her first computer—an iPad—and as the video shows, she's a whizz.

According to her daughter Ginny, the iPad has "changed her life," as the glucoma-suffering woman has found reading and writing much easier on the iPad. In fact, she's read two ebooks, and written 12 limericks—one of which appears in the video below, where she calls herself a "technical-ninny."

Great turn out.

Every week I am blown away by the people that continue to show up to our workshops. I am thankful to have an audience to teach and help play a role in advancing the health of our community. Last night we learned that injuries, any time in life, lead to arthritis and degeneration if not corrected and maintained. Chiropractic plays a huge role in maintaining the health of the spine. These are 2 videos that are worth checking out demonstrating people that are living the idea of The 100 Year Lifestyle. You will most likely need a FACEBOOK account to view them.

The 100 Year Lifestyle

The 100 Year Lifestyle is a topic I am passionate about. I first learned of this about 2 years ago from a successful Chiropractor out of Atlanta, Dr. Eric Plasker, author of the best-selling book, The 100 Year Lifestyle. He inspired me to clarify my mission as a Chiropractor and Healthcare Provider. Join us this next Tuesday night, May 18th at 6:00 p.m. as I spend 30 minutes diving into the very habits and lifestyle choices that every person needs to consider if they want to be healthy at 100 and beyond. Are your current habits supporting you, living in the same body you have right now, when you are 100 and beyond? Most people would have to say no. Let us help you.

Migraines

Join us this next Tuesday night as we talk about one of the most devastating disorders a person can have. A migraine headache.

How Thankful Are We?

I've shown this video a few times at our Spinal Workshop on Tuesday night and it is always a good reminder of how complacent we can get and how quick we forget how much we have. We are all so blessed just to be alive and have what we do. Look around and ask around because there is always someone more challenged than you. Let's all be more thankful and express more gratitude in a day and watch how it makes the world go around so much better.

Spinal Workshop this upcoming Tuesday night. Will Be a Full House.

Should be our biggest crowd yet. We are honestly beginning to make plans to have off site classes because of the demand and size of the classes. This is a fun problem to face, but for now we pack in at the office of Becking Chiropractic.

Bianca Becking interview about Chiropractic

When I quizzed Bianca tonight about scenarios if she were to fall you can hear that she clearly knows the importance of getting her spine checked and adjusted. You can't understand her clearly when she says get adjusted. Chiropractic adjustments are what allow the spine and nervous system to run properly.
If you would like more info don't hesitate to drop an email or even call the office.

33-Year- Old Cardinal's Pitcher Dies Unexpectedly

We spoke of the similarities in Cancer, Subluxation and Heart Disease at tonight's Spinal Workshop. The overriding theme is prevention. All of these disease processes start small and because of neglect for years their damage is large and the awareness of is sometimes sudden. We cannot wait until pain shows up. Damage occurs without pain most often. I shared the true story of a Cardinal's pitcher in 2002 that died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He was a healthy 33-year- old. Check his story out.

Good Friday

There are few times in the year that I will voice my beliefs and Good Friday is one of them. We honor the day by being out of the office and I give myself and others the opportunity to reflect on what Good Friday and Easter mean for many people. I found a video on You Tube years ago that expresses my thoughts and emotion perfectly. This video is of a band that leads music for one of the largest churches on the planet, Hillsong, in Australia. This video captures how I feel when I think of the blessings and the gifts in my life. Make sure you go full screen, turn the volume up and really listen to the words. In my opinion there is nothing like seeing 10's of thousands of people honoring God. Regardless of your beliefs Easter is a time of year to ask questions. Be thankful and enjoy this 7 minute clip.

Well it's that time of year again. Spring is in the air and so are many people's allergy symptoms. You may not be aware of the relationship of your nervous system and spine to your body's response to allergens. Many of our patients have noticed dramatic improvements in allergy symptoms and complaints they have had for most of their life relating to that. If you have stress on your spine and nervous system due to postural distortion or trauma in your past, you may have symptoms like allergies that are plaguing you. Check out Scott's story to hear how Chiropractic changed his life.

Allergies Practically Gone

Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are very recognizable names and are true champions. Their careers and life after their careers totally depended on the health and function of their bodies. Many professional football players are disabled after they retire, but these two attribute much of their success in maintaining health to Chiropractic. Jerry was even on Dancing with the Stars. Not too many Hall of Famers able to still move like that. Pretty awesome.
